Candace E. Parrish

Candace Parrish is a painter, mixed-media collage artist, and hair braider based in Clarksville/Memphis, TN. Her artistic focus is on natural hair in every aspect; she works with acrylic/watercolor paint, as well as fibrous materials such as yarn and string. Candace’s sculptural pieces combine yarn, epoxy, and clay. Many of her works carry the theme of black nostalgia as well as the black American experience in the United States, during the transatlantic slave trade, and everything after. Currently, she is Treasurer and stylist chair of Austin Peay’s majority black organization, Aesthetic Alliance, where she styles and helps her fellow members in style for photoshoots, which uplift and support other small businesses through photography and community.
